Restored by hand, using traditional heritage skills
Our ornamental plasterwork service is about preserving the original character and detail of period properties. From damaged cornices and decorative mouldings to missing sections of original plasterwork, traditional techniques are used to carefully repair and recreate these features by hand.
Uncle Steve is our specialist in this field, bringing years of experience and traditional craftsmanship to every restoration. It is handmade work, using heritage skills that are becoming increasingly hard to find.
The photographs here document the process on two of the many restoration projects undertaken over the years, showing the skill and attention that goes into bringing original plasterwork back to life.
It starts with a proper look at what is there: which sections are original, what is damaged and what is missing altogether. The surviving plasterwork sets the pattern, so any new section is made to match the profile and detail of the room rather than replaced with something off the shelf.
Restoration is usually one part of a wider renovation, so it is sequenced with the rest of the job and managed by Matt alongside everything else. Nothing is rushed, and the result should look as though it was always there.
